“And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over.” (Matthew 14:20 ESV)
When Jesus fed the 5,000, he offered a blessing of thanks and multiplied the meager supplies so that everyone was satisfied, and there was even an abundance left over. Does this scripture strike you anew after enjoying a Thanksgiving feast with family and friends? While we can be tempted to worry about scarcity, God blesses us with abundance and there is more than enough left over.
For this Giving Tuesday, let us all follow the disciples’ pattern and symbolically gather up the broken pieces, crumbs, and leftovers from our feasts by making a contribution to Flourish Fund of the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes so that we can again witness how great the power of God is and how richly he has blessed us.
