Description: Atelier CTB is an engineering design and build workshop organized by Casey Tucker Brown, based in Maine and France.
Casey Brown is a designer and builder with a focus on vehicles for the air and water. Experience with a variety of aircraft, a background in mechanical engineering, and nearly a decade of work designing hardware on Saildrone autonomous ocean vehicles has established Casey, operating now as Atelier CTB, as a capable and creative partner for challenging projects.
The Saildrone manufacturing facility is abuzz with activity on a balmy late-March day, its huge open doors letting in the breeze from nearby San Francisco Bay. Mechanical engineer Casey Brown ’16 is giving a tour of the gigantic, historic airplane hangar at the former Naval Air Station Alameda on the banks of Seaplane Lagoon.
“I walked into Grain with camera gear spilling over in my hands. Made my way through the main room of glue and clamps, and heading into the sanding space. It looked almost like an operating room seeing Casey’s board lying there on the table. The ribs of the board exposed, bright lights illuminating the space, surrounded by shelves with assorted hand-tools for the job ahead. I set up my camera, and then in walked the doctor.”
