About the Skansonia
The Skansonia was built (in just six weeks!) in 1929, to run from Gig Harbor to Point Defiance. During our wedding, she’ll be celebrating her 90th year! After the construction of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge, her route changed to the Tacoma to Tahlequah run… until the bridge’s infamous collapse in 1940. The Skansonia continued service as part of the Washington State Ferry Fleet until 1967, and has been docked on Lake Union for nearly 50 years.
