The Lackawanna Longnecks are an Old Time stringband from Pittsburgh, Pa., playing music in the traditional style of rural Appalachia. Their full acoustic stringband sound is heard all over Pittsburgh at concerts, festivals, square & contra dances, weddings, and parties — since 1987!
The Longnecks have committed themselves to play music in the Old Time Appalachian style. The people of Appalachia have a long honored aural tradition of music and song, with emphasis on self-sufficiency and strong religious faith. Before technology powered transportation and communication, many areas remained geographically isolated from the rest of the world as late as the 1920’s.
