Palm Beach County’s newest city, built on an old citrus grove, and the towns around it.
Westlake, Florida is the newest city in Palm Beach County and one of the newest in the state. It sits on about 4,000 acres along Seminole Pratt Whitney Road, between The Acreage to the north and east and Loxahatchee Groves to the south, on land that was the Callery-Judge citrus grove for half a century. When disease made citrus unprofitable, the developer Minto bought the property in 2013, and in June 2016 the old Seminole Improvement District was converted into the City of Westlake.
The city is growing fast. The 2020 census counted only a few hundred residents; today several thousand people live in Westlake’s neighborhoods of new single-family homes, and the county’s approvals allow for more than 4,500 homes and millions of square feet of shops and offices at build-out.
